Mount Allison University charges international students CAD 22,890 in tuition for 2026/27, plus CAD 1,930 in student fees. Its own estimate for an international student's full first year, including a single room, unlimited meal plan, health coverage and books, is CAD 44,070.
For a small, undergraduate-focused liberal arts and sciences university, that is a low price by Canadian standards. Below you will find the cost breakdown, programs, the 2027/28 timeline, entry requirements and how scholarships work.
Why Mount Allison is good value
New Brunswick's average international undergraduate tuition is CAD 20,029, one of the lowest in Canada (Statistics Canada, 2026/27). Mount Allison is slightly above that average but gives you a small campus where most teaching is at the undergraduate level. Scholarships are considered automatically from your application.
- Transparent costs: the university publishes a full first-year estimate for international students.
- One application for admission and scholarships.
- Unusual programs for a small school, such as Aviation, Astronomy, Geocomputing and Data Science.
- English Pathway: conditional admission plus an online English Pathway Program if your score is not yet high enough.

Admission requirements
- Secondary school completion with university-preparatory courses. Prerequisites depend on your degree and country; use the selector on the admission requirements page.
- Documents: final Grade 11 or mid-year Grade 12 transcripts, a copy of your passport, and later a final official transcript sent by your school by July.
- English: IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 4.5 on the new scale, PTE 60, CAEL 70, Cambridge 176 or Duolingo 110 with subscores.
- English waiver after three years at a Canadian secondary school or 30 English-medium post-secondary credits.
For the MSc you need a four-year BSc with a CGPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.3, research experience and a letter of support from a supervisor with a funding plan. Applicants without a committed supervisor are unlikely to be admitted.
Applicants from Afghanistan and similar countries
Mount Allison does not publish an Afghanistan-specific rule; use its country selector and ask admissions how your certificate is assessed. Canada has no visa application centre in Afghanistan, and Afghan documents cannot be apostilled. Our documents guide explains the options.
Scholarships and bursaries
Entrance scholarships are considered automatically with your admission application, as long as the application and all documents arrive by 1 March. Bursary applications, which are based on need, are also due on 1 March after admission. Read our Canada scholarships guide for other options.
Work and life after graduation
Full-time degree students may work off campus up to 24 hours per week during classes and without a limit in scheduled breaks. After graduating, you can apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit within 180 days, which requires CLB 7 in English. Sackville is a small town, so part-time jobs are fewer than in cities. See our work and stay in Canada guide.
Honest pros and cons
Benefits
- Tuition under CAD 23,000 a year with a published all-in estimate
- Automatic scholarship consideration
- Small classes at an undergraduate-focused university
- Early admission on Grade 11 marks
Difficulties
- Very few graduate options (MSc Biology and Chemistry only)
- Small-town location with limited off-campus jobs
- Residence and meals add almost CAD 16,000 to the first year
- Undergraduates need a New Brunswick PAL, and only one NB PAL is allowed per student
Mistakes to avoid
- Applying after 1 March and expecting a scholarship. Late applications can still be admitted, but scholarship consideration needs the application and all documents by 1 March.
- Budgeting only for tuition. The university's own first-year estimate is CAD 44,070, almost double the tuition figure, because of residence, meals, insurance and books.
- Choosing January for Music, Fine Arts or Aviation. These programs do not admit in January.
- Applying for the MSc without a supervisor. Mount Allison says applicants without a committed supervisor are unlikely to be admitted.
- Getting a PAL from another New Brunswick school first. Each student can receive only one PAL from New Brunswick, so decide on your school before accepting an offer elsewhere in the province.
