On this page
The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS, De Haagse Hogeschool) is a large public university of applied sciences with one of the biggest English-taught offers in the Netherlands. For 2026/27 its institutional bachelor's fee is €10,528 per year, and it runs campuses in The Hague, Delft and Zoetermeer.
Its best-known feature for international students is the choice between 3-year fast-track and 4-year bachelor's, depending on your school diploma. Below are the official fees, the package fee for visa students, programs, deadlines and steps.
Why THUAS is good value
THUAS combines a low institutional fee with a wide program range in international business, law, policy, engineering and design. If your diploma is VWO-equivalent, a 3-year fast-track bachelor's saves you a full year of tuition and living costs compared with a 4-year program.
- 3-year fast-track bachelor's in subjects such as Applied Computer Science, International Business and European Studies
- 4-year bachelor's for HAVO-level diplomas
- Programs offered on campuses in The Hague, Delft and Zoetermeer
- THUAS applies for your MVV and residence permit
THUAS tuition fees
| Program type | 2025/26 | 2026/27 |
|---|---|---|
| Bachelor's | €10,164 | €10,528 |
| Full-time English-taught master's (new starters) | - | €14,000 |
| THUAS Pro master's (MBA, MFMC, ICM and others) | - | €22,995 |
THUAS estimates additional study costs of about €800 a year. The joint master's Systems Entrepreneurship & Transformation (with Hochschule München) costs €21,000 in total. THUAS does not state an application fee.
The package fee
If THUAS applies for your residence permit, you usually pay a package fee that includes tuition. In the 2026 cycle this was €26,000 (tuition, proof of living costs and legal fees), due by 15 June. If you cancel, THUAS deducts a €100 cancellation fee plus legal fees from the refund. Confirm the amount for 2027 with THUAS.

Admission requirements
For 4-year bachelor's you need a diploma equivalent to Dutch HAVO; for 3-year fast-track programs a VWO-equivalent diploma. No minimum grade is stated, but some programs require mathematics. The Enrolment Office assesses international diplomas, and applicants aged 21+ without a qualifying diploma can take an admissions test.
English: IELTS Academic 6.0 (3-year programs need 6.0 in every sub-score), TOEFL iBT 80 (4.5 on the new scale), TOEIC 865/335, Cambridge 169, LanguageCert 65 or PTE 61. Tests must be from a test centre and not older than 2 years on 1 September 2027. Master's need a relevant bachelor's, CV, motivation statement, recommendation letter and a compulsory intake interview.
Good news for applicants from Afghanistan and Iran
THUAS's entry requirements page says home-edition English tests are accepted for women living in Afghanistan, and for men and women living in Iran, until further notice. Nuffic compares the Afghan 12th Grade certificate to HAVO, which matches THUAS's 4-year bachelor's. See our admission requirements guide.
Deadlines
THUAS had not yet published 2027 dates in October 2026. For the September 2026 intake, the deadlines for non-EU applicants were:
| Step | Bachelor's | Master's |
|---|---|---|
| Application | 1 May 2026 | 1 May 2026 |
| Documents incl. language test, and package fee | 15 June 2026 | 15 June 2026 |
| Non-EU with a Dutch residence permit | 1 June 2026 | - |
THUAS Pro program pages show a standing non-EU deadline of 1 May. Master's evaluation takes 2–4 weeks. Data Driven Business and Sustainability Transitions also start in February.
Visa timeline after you pay
Once you have paid, THUAS applies to the IND for your MVV and residence permit. The IND decision period is 60 days. After a positive decision you have 3 months to collect the MVV sticker at the Dutch embassy or consulate named in the IND letter; your passport must be valid for 6 more months. This is why the mid-June payment deadline matters for a September start.
Residents of Afghanistan cannot collect an MVV in Kabul because the Dutch embassy there is closed. The IND letter will name another mission, in most cases in India, Iran or Pakistan, or the consulate-general in the UAE.
Scholarships
THUAS offers one-off first-year scholarships for international students; see its study finance and scholarships page for current amounts and rules. Our scholarships in the Netherlands guide lists national options such as the NL Scholarship.
Living in The Hague
Study in NL says students in the Netherlands spend on average €1,000–€1,500 a month and an average room costs about €550, depending on the city. Study in NL warns of a national housing shortage, so start early and never pay for a room you have not seen. With your permit you may work up to 16 hours a week, or full-time in June to August, once your employer has a work permit (TWV).
