Jean Moulin University Lyon 3 lists only the national fee of €255 a year for a master's in 2026/27, including on its English-taught iaelyon business programs, with no separate non-EU price shown. That makes it one of the cheapest places in France to take an English-taught management master's, if the rate is confirmed for your enrolment.

Lyon 3 specialises in law, management, humanities and languages. Its English-taught degrees are mostly at the iaelyon School of Management, plus an LL.M in business law. Here is what it costs, what you need and how to apply.

Why Lyon 3 is good value

  • National fees listed: the fees page and iaelyon program pages show only national rates for 2026/27.
  • Business programs in English: four iaelyon master's in general management, international business, sustainability and information systems.
  • Lyon: France's big regional city, with lower rents than Paris. Campus France gives an average CROUS rent of about €350 a month in the regions.
  • Support for students in exile: Lyon 3 runs dedicated programs for refugees and protection holders.

Confirm the non-EU rate in writing

Lyon 3's fees page and international student page do not mention differentiated fees at all, either to apply or to waive them. France's national non-EU rates are €2,902 (bachelor's) and €3,950 (master's) in 2026/27, and waiver rules changed with Decree 2026-385 of 19 May 2026. Before you accept an offer, ask the international office ([email protected]) which fee you will pay.

Separate costs to budget: the management admission test and English test (both paid separately), and the Campus France procedure fee if you live in an Études en France country. Our cost of studying in France guide lists all official charges.

English-taught programs

Lyon 3's courses taught in English page lists these master's:

  • General Management Program (GMP), Master MAE, 1-year M2 (iaelyon)
  • International Business Realities (IBR), 2 years or direct M2 entry (iaelyon)
  • Sustainable Management for International Business (SMIB), 1-year M2 (iaelyon)
  • Human and System Intelligence for Management (HSIM), 1-year M2 (iaelyon)
  • LL.M in International and European Business Law, 1-year M2 (Faculty of Law)

The same page also lists a Business Management licence, the SELF university diploma and an International MBA (continuing education). Compare more options in English-taught programs in France.

Admission requirements and tests

  • Academic level: M2 programs need a Master 1 or 240 ECTS. SMIB says 2–3 years of professional experience is appreciated; HSIM wants a management or computer science background with solid information-systems knowledge.
  • Management test: iaelyon master's use the SIM (Score IAE-Message); TAGE MAGE or GMAT are accepted for international students.
  • English: SMIB requires at least TOEIC 800 or TOEFL 90. The LL.M asks for IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 85, or Cambridge CPE (grade C) or CAE, with exemptions for English-medium study.
  • Selection: academic results, test scores, CV and cover letter, then an individual interview for shortlisted SMIB candidates. The LL.M may include a telephone interview.
  • Documents: degree certificates and transcripts (with certified translations where needed), test scores, CV, cover letter, passport.

Scholarships

We found no dedicated Lyon 3 scholarship for international degree students on the pages reviewed. Your main options are national:

  • France Excellence Eiffel: €1,200 a month for master's students, nominated by the university; submission deadline 6 January 2027.
  • France Excellence for Afghan students (2027 call): deadline 31 May 2027; you must already be admitted.
  • Other government and regional schemes in our France scholarships guide.

Living costs in Lyon

Low fees do not cover rent and food. For the visa you must show at least €877.50 per month (rule from 1 August 2026). Campus France gives an average CROUS residence rent of about €350 a month in the regions, and private studios outside Paris start at about €400 (Service-Public). With a student permit you may work up to 964 hours a year, but apply for CROUS housing early (from 7 July) and do not rely on a job to cover your first months.

Applying from Afghanistan

Direct application or Campus France?

Lyon 3's page says Afghan residents apply directly on eCandidat or Mon Master and then apply for a long-stay visa. The French government's 2027 call for Afghan applicants says people living in Afghanistan apply through Campus France in India, Iran or Pakistan and Études en France, and only those embassies issue their student visas. Confirm with both. Refugees and protection holders in France can use Lyon 3's adapted DAA procedure.
