Key takeaways

  • Granada's price page lists €13.68 per credit for a first-enrolment master and €12.62 for a bachelor, with no separate non-EU rate shown.
  • A 60-ECTS master therefore costs about €821 in tuition, among the lowest public prices in Spain.
  • Our data lists 3 English-taught masters: Economics, English Literature and Linguistics, and Erasmus Mundus COSI.
  • Andalusia runs a master's application phase only for foreign degree holders; for 2026/27 it ran 13–29 January 2026.
  • Bachelor's degrees are taught mainly in Spanish, so Granada is a master's choice for English speakers.

The University of Granada (UGR) is one of the cheapest public universities in Spain for international students. Its official price table lists €13.68 per credit for a first-enrolment master's, which is about €821 for 60 ECTS, and the page shows no separate price for non-EU students.

The catch: the English-taught offer is small. This guide shows what you pay, which programs are in English, and how the Andalusian DUA application system works.

Why Granada is good value

  • Andalusian public prices: set by the regional Decree 98/2023, and UGR's price page shows one table for everyone.
  • No non-EU surcharge shown: the decree allows Andalusian universities to charge non-resident non-EU students up to the full cost, but UGR's page shows no extra rate.
  • A phase just for foreign graduates: Andalusia's DUA system opens a master's phase in January only for holders of foreign degrees.
  • Granada: a historic university city in southern Spain.

Master's (professional, habilitante)€12.62€27.35

Third and later attempts at the same subject cost much more (up to €82.06 per credit for a master's). New students also pay a one-off €59.10 file-opening fee. Erasmus Mundus masters such as COSI have fees set by their consortium, not by UGR.

Confirm your price before you pay

UGR's page does not print an academic-year label, and the Andalusian decree lets universities charge non-resident non-EU students more. The page shows no such surcharge today, but check the price on your admission letter and the 2027/28 price table when it appears.

Andalusia also has a bonus that removes 99% of the price of credits passed at the first attempt in later years. The pages we checked do not say whether non-resident non-EU students qualify, so do not count on it in your budget. For a full budget, see cost of studying in Spain.

EconomicsMaster's1 year (60 ECTS)
English Literature and LinguisticsMaster's1 year (60 ECTS)
Erasmus Mundus in Computational Color and Spectral Imaging (COSI)Master's2 years

Bachelor's degrees are taught mainly in Spanish (UGR highly recommends B2 Spanish). If you need a fully English bachelor's, look at Carlos III University of Madrid or Pompeu Fabra instead. UGR lists its bilingual and English masters on its master's portal.

Admission requirements

  • Degree: a bachelor-level degree that gives access to postgraduate study in the country that issued it. Non-EHEA degrees need no homologation for master's access, but UGR checks the level.
  • English: a certificate from UGR's list of accepted certificates, at the level shown in each master's DUA catalogue entry.
  • Documents: degree certificate, transcript, passport and any program-specific documents, uploaded as PDFs in the DUA form.
  • Choices: you can rank up to six masters in one DUA application.

Applicants missing at most 9 ECTS, the final project or the language certificate can apply conditionally, but only in Phase 3. Read more in our Spain admission requirements guide.

Deadlines: the DUA calendar

All Andalusian public universities use the regional Distrito Único Andaluz (DUA) portal. These are the official 2026/27 dates; the 2027/28 calendar had not been published when the fact pack was checked on 13 October 2026.

Use Phase 1

Phase 1 in January is reserved for people like you, and its results come early enough to apply for a visa. Erasmus Mundus and Arqus joint masters do not use DUA; apply to the consortium directly.

Scholarships

We found no UGR scholarship for international degree-seeking students. Your best options are Erasmus Mundus scholarships (COSI) and funding from your home country. See scholarships in Spain for international students.

Your budget: tuition is small, living money is not

At Granada, tuition is unlikely to be your biggest cost. The Spanish study visa asks you to prove funds of 100% of the IPREM (Spain's public income indicator) for every month of your stay, plus 75% for a first family member and 50% for each additional one. The amount is reduced if your accommodation is prepaid for the whole stay, and money you pay for tuition does not count.

The official pages state this rule as a percentage, not a euro figure, so check the current IPREM value before you prepare bank statements. Each year, when you renew your study authorisation, you must show these funds again.

  • Tuition: about €821 for a 60-ECTS master at first-enrolment prices.
  • One-off fees: €59.10 file opening, plus the advance payment when you accept a place.
  • Visa funds: 100% of IPREM per month for you, shown with your visa application.
  • Health insurance: a public or private policy from an insurer authorised in Spain, valid for your whole stay.

With a higher-education study authorisation you may work up to 30 hours a week if the job is compatible with your studies, but do not plan your budget around a job. Spanish is the everyday language in Granada, so part-time work usually needs Spanish.

Who should choose Granada

Granada fits you best if you want the lowest possible tuition and one of the three English programs matches your field: economics, English studies, or colour and spectral imaging through COSI. If your field is engineering or AI, the English choice is much wider at UPC BarcelonaTech, though tuition there is higher for non-EU students.

Honest pros and cons

Benefits

  • Among the lowest public tuition in Spain, with no non-EU surcharge shown
  • A January application phase only for foreign graduates
  • Up to six masters in one application

Difficulties

  • Only 3 English-taught masters in our data
  • Bachelor's degrees are mainly in Spanish
  • No university scholarship for international students found
  • The decree allows a non-EU surcharge, so prices could change

Applying from Afghanistan

Afghan applicants

Afghan documents cannot be apostilled; they need the full diplomatic legalization chain. Visa applications from Afghans go to the Embassy of Spain in Islamabad (proof of legal residence in Pakistan required) or, for legal residents of Iran, the Embassy in Tehran. Because January Phase 1 is early, start legalization a year ahead. See our documents guide.
