Language rules

English-medium programs begin with an English preparatory class unless you pass Hacettepe's proficiency exam or present an accepted certificate (the admission pages do not state the scores). International students also take Turkish courses (TRK 117/118), and some programs require the Turkish preparatory class as well.

Admission requirements

You must have completed secondary education abroad that is equivalent to a Turkish high school; foreigners who studied at a Turkish high school are not eligible. There is no GPA minimum: admission is by exam score, and a high-school diploma alone is not accepted.

  • TR-YÖS: at least 300/500
  • SAT: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing plus Math at least 1000
  • GCE A-levels: at least three A-levels, or two A-levels and one AS, average C, in related subjects

You may use only one score type per academic year, and scores are valid for two years. Upload your passport, a high-school diploma certified by a Turkish consulate (or an eligibility-to-graduate letter), your transcript, a sworn translation if documents are not in English or Turkish, your score and a biometric photo. Admission is quota-based, so meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place.

Afghan and Pakistani applicants

Hacettepe does not list a national-exam route, so you need TR-YÖS, SAT or A-levels. TR-YÖS had centres in Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Mazar-i-Sharif, Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi in 2026; the fee at Afghan centres was 1,150 TL. For consular certification of Afghan documents, see our documents guide.

Master's and PhD

International candidates apply in the same call as Turkish candidates through each graduate school. Expect ALES, GRE or GMAT where required, a language score (for example YDS/YÖKDİL/TOEFL iBT of 50/50/60 up to 70/70/84), two sealed reference letters and a GPA minimum that varies by department (Computer Engineering 2.80/4). Turkish-taught programs need TÖMER C1. YÖK diploma equivalence is needed at final registration.
