  • Documents: bachelor's certificate and transcript per semester, school-leaving certificate, passport copy, English proof, and program-specific items like a motivation letter, CV and eligibility checklist.
  • Translations: must be certified by a German embassy or consulate or a sworn translator in Germany; notarisation is not required.
  • Computer Science: an on-campus written entrance exam may be required if your competences cannot be verified; GRE or GATE scores can exempt you.

Mistakes to avoid when applying to TU Darmstadt

  • Forgetting the paper step. The printed cover sheet and simple copies must reach Zulassung International within the deadline, not just your online application.
  • Using the wrong translator. Translations must come from a German mission or a sworn translator in Germany.
  • Applying to several computing programs at once. You may choose only one of AI and Machine Learning, Computer Science and IT Security per round.
  • Assuming B2 English is enough. English-taught master's require C1.
  • Paying the semester fee late. It rises from €402.68 to €432.68 if paid after 15 September.

Benefits

  • No tuition and no uni-assist fee
  • Strong English options in AI, IT security and engineering
  • Summer and winter intakes for most English master's
  • Deutschlandstipendium open to international students

Difficulties

  • C1 English (IELTS 7.0) is a high bar
  • You must also post a printed cover sheet by mail
  • Possible entrance exam for Computer Science
  • Only one of the three computing programs per round

Applying from Afghanistan

TU Darmstadt requires APS only for China, Vietnam and India, so Afghan applicants do not need it. An Afghan bachelor's degree gives direct access to master's study according to anabin. National visas are handled by the German Embassy in Islamabad; see our Germany student visa guide.
